Workbooks for catching up on lost learning
Layout of the “Catching up on lost learning” educational workbook series — part of the project “Improving safe education for children and teenagers affected by the war in the Sumy, Kharkiv and Donetsk regions of Ukraine”, funded by the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations (ECHO).

PROBLEM
Because of the war, children and teens in the Sumy, Kharkiv and Donetsk regions lost months of schooling. The ECHO-funded project was meant to help them catch up — and that required workbooks across subjects, clear and easy for a child to work through on their own.
SOLUTION
We laid out the “Catching up on lost learning” workbook series: each subject has its own colour and recognisable design, while a shared illustrated “road of knowledge” motif ties the series together. Inside — a clear, child-friendly task structure. Subjects included mathematics, English, Ukrainian language and literature, history and natural sciences.
RESULT
Children in frontline regions got quality materials to make up for missed learning. And the project got a cohesive, recognisable workbook series that works within a large humanitarian programme.
