A field-research book on local cuisine

Design and layout of a book — a field study of local cuisine by restaurateur Maryna Pushkarova, created within a grant project. We have worked with Maryna for many years, and her core value is popularising local cuisine.

PROBLEM

The book is a field study of local cuisine, and it had to feel alive and appetising. But the project budget allowed mostly black-and-white printing — and without colour, food on the page easily turns flat and unappealing.

SOLUTION

We made the illustrations as pencil-style drawings — they read clearly in black-and-white and give the book a warm, handmade character. We also wove many QR codes into the layout: the printed book becomes interactive, with each code leading to a video recipe.

RESULT

The result is a cohesive book that popularises local cuisine, reads well even without colour, and bridges print with video. Its publication and launch had a real image effect — taking Maryna to a new professional level. And our years-long collaboration continues.
